Storia
Jim Malden (Rutger Hauer), a Vietnam veteran living as a recluse on an island in North Carolina, has formed a close bond with his neighbors Stella Clayton (Kathleen Turner) and her son Adam. The island is home to a pair of rare bald eagles, which Jim protects as part of his conservation efforts. A world-class mountain climber named Mike Walker (Powers Boothe) arrives on the island, claiming to want to observe the eagles but secretly hired by an egg collector to steal their eggs. Despite his initial reservations about Mike's true intentions, Jim grows fond of him and introduces him to Stella. When Mike finally reveals his mission to Jim, it leads to a violent confrontation between them. Eventually, after falling in love with Stella and witnessing the strong connection between Jim and the eagles, Mike decides not to steal the eggs but instead leaves them untouched in the nest.
Riassunto
Directed by Philippe Mora in 1984, 'A Breed Apart' is an action-drama-romance film set on a remote island off the coast of North Carolina. The story revolves around Jim Malden, a conservationist and Vietnam veteran who has isolated himself from society after suffering a personal tragedy. His peaceful existence is disrupted by the arrival of Mike Walker, a skilled mountain climber with a hidden agenda to steal the eggs of the rare bald eagles nesting on the island. The film explores themes of nature conservation, environmental protection, and the power of human connection in influencing our actions. It also delves into the aftermath of the Vietnam War, as seen through Jim's character.
