Riassunto
Vinny Pazienza's resilience was legendary, but even for him, surviving a near-fatal car crash that threatened to leave him paralyzed seemed impossible. Yet, he defied odds again, miraculously recovering and embarking on one of sports' most astonishing comebacks. In November 1988, Vinny challenged Roger Mayweather for the WBC World Light Welterweight Title. In typical Pazienza fashion, he arrived late to the weigh-in, having spent hours on a stationary bicycle to meet the weight limit. His final poundage - 140 even - earned him his shot at glory. However, instead of resting, Vinny indulged in a night out at a casino. The next day, fatigue evident in every swing, he lost to Mayweather. A post-fight melee ensued when Vinny was struck after the bell; his manager Lou Duva intervened but was punched himself. Post-match, Duva publicly suggested Vinny's retirement, igniting a fierce argument with Vinny's father and coach, Angelo. In the heat of the moment, Vinny announced he wanted another fight, hiring Kevin Rooney as his new coach to make it happen.
