In 1922 France, novelist Suzanne moves to the countryside for inspiration but finds herself disturbed by strange visions after discovering a sealed room in her house's basement. As she begins writing prolifically about a mysterious entity that seems to be awakening within the walls, several young girls from the nearby village go missing. The villagers grow worried and suspicious of Suzanne.
