The story unfolds in South France during autumn of 1654. Eloise lives in a cloister, where she has been left by her famous father, d'Artagnan. Eloise embodies ideals of honor, faithfulness, and compassion towards the less fortunate. When the leader of the nuns is executed for trying to save an escaped servant from the cruel Crassac and his accomplice, the Red Lady, Eloise becomes enraged at this injustice. Her strong reaction sets off a chain of events that propel her into action.
