Trama
Laila Aur Satt Geet (2020), directed by Pushpendra Singh, tells the story of Laila, a young woman from the Gujjar-Bakarwal tribe in Kashmir who marries her fellow tribesman Tanvir. The couple migrates to the plains with their tribe during winter to escape heavy snowfall in the Valley. Laila's beauty captures the attention of two powerful men: Rishi, a local police officer, and Mushtaq, a forest officer. They raid the Bakarwal camp under the pretext of catching a glimpse of her. Enamored by Laila, Mushtaq begins to pursue her despite her marriage, leading to a twisted game between them. Meanwhile, Tanvir's inaction leaves Laila disillusioned and forced to navigate this situation with her wits.

Laila Aur Satt Geet is an ethnographic drama that explores the life of a young woman from the Gujjar-Bakarwal tribe in Kashmir. The film uses seven folk songs as narrative devices to describe Laila's inner and outer worlds, making it part allegory and part feminist fairytale.
