Storia

The movie 'Mary' follows three individuals whose lives are profoundly affected during the filming of a Passion play in Jerusalem. The director, who casts himself as Jesus Christ, becomes increasingly absorbed by his role and the religious fervor surrounding them. Meanwhile, the actress playing Mary Magdalene finds it difficult to leave her character behind once shooting wraps up in Bethlehem. Additionally, a TV journalist on set begins to grapple with spiritual doubts as he witnesses these events unfold.

Riassunto

Directed by Abel Ferrara ('Bad Lieutenant,' 'Ms. 45'), 'Mary' is a drama-thriller that explores the intersections of faith and filmmaking. Set amidst the chaotic yet reverential atmosphere of Jerusalem during Easter week, the movie delves into the psychological impact of portraying biblical figures on those involved in its production. Ferrara himself plays the egotistical director, adding an autobiographical element to the narrative. Themes of faith, identity, and obsession permeate the film, as characters struggle with their roles both on and off-screen.
