Robert Woodfield, a criminal defense attorney with a reputation for defending guilty clients, successfully defends Martin Ritter who is charged with murder. After his friend's subsequent murder at dinner, Robert discovers that Ritter was involved and his friend was investigating something potentially dangerous. Ritter frames his wife for murder to keep him quiet but Robert persists in investigating despite the danger to himself and his wife.
