In April 1961 in Dresden, teenage Siggi meets and falls in love with aspiring poetess Luise in a park. He befriends her husband Wolle to be close to Luise. Siggi smuggles porcelain objects to West Berlin to sell for money to go out with Wolle and his friends. As the totalitarian system increases repression, Wolle is arrested by the Stasi. Siggi publishes Luise's poems, leading to her arrest. Siggi takes the blame to release Luise but when he's chased by the Stasi, he asks Luise to flee to West Germany with him.
