Nurse Caroline Ellis takes up residence in an old New Orleans plantation home to care for elderly Ben Devereux, who has suffered a stroke and cannot speak. She finds the house eerie but decides to stay after being convinced by Luke Marshall, the family's lawyer. Caroline discovers a secret room in the attic filled with Hoodoo artifacts - spells, hair, bones, and a mysterious skeleton key. Violet Devereaux, Ben's wife, denies knowing about this room. Suspecting that Violet has placed a curse on Ben, Caroline becomes determined to lift it using her knowledge of Hoodoo. She begins experiencing disturbing dreams and supernatural occurrences as she delves deeper into the house's dark past.
