Inez moves into a condemned building in Södermalm, Stockholm. Upon discovering a dead body, she alerts the police. However, when they arrive, the body has vanished. Inspector Günter initially dismisses it as a hallucination but begins investigating nonetheless. Inez's neighbor, Ekberg, asks her to forget about the incident. The building houses peculiar residents such as a bookseller and a secretive woman in a sculpture workshop. Meanwhile, a man locks Inez out of the attic, and another falls from a scaffold.
