Trama
In the 17th century during tulip mania in Amsterdam, an artist named Jan van Loos (played by Dane DeHaan) falls in love with a young married woman, Sophia Sandvoort (played by Alicia Vikander), while commissioned to paint her portrait. Meanwhile, Sophia's husband, Cornelis (played by Christoph Waltz), is a wealthy merchant who buys the estate of the wealthy and powerful Dutch politician Jan Asselijn (played by Tom Hollander). The two men commission the artist to paint their portraits as well. As Jan becomes more entwined with the Sandvoort household, he begins an affair with Sophia. In order to be together and secure a future, they invest in the risky tulip market using Cornelis's money. However, when Cornelis discovers their relationship and his financial losses due to their investments, he confronts them, leading to a tragic chain of events.
