Giulia Ercolini, born in Naples, Italy in 1944, is the daughter of American sailor Dean Barry and native Italian Lucia. Dean first arrived in Naples at age 23 and developed feelings for Lucia, with whom he had a child, Giulia. Dean was later compelled to leave Naples but returned to see his family again, finding a significantly changed city.

Storia
In 1944, American sailor Dean Barry arrives in Naples following the liberation of Italy. He meets and falls deeply in love with Lucia, a young local woman from a poor background. Their relationship results in a pregnancy before Dean's service ends two years later, forcing him to return to New Jersey and leaving Lucia alone with their child. Upon completing his service, Dean decides to return to Naples to find his family despite the city having changed significantly.
