Claire Drouot was born as Claire Drouot on February 3, 1942. While she is not a professional actress by trade, she gained international recognition for her performance in Agnès Varda's 1965 Nouvelle Vague masterpiece, Le Bonheur (Happiness).
In the film, she portrays Thérèse Chevalier, the devoted wife of a carpenter named François. Varda’s experimental casting choice brought a unique sense of intimacy to the screen, as Claire starred alongside her real-life husband, actor Jean-Claude Drouot, and their two biological children, Sandrine and Olivier Drouot. The family's genuine chemistry on screen serves as a stark, idyllic contrast to the film's unsettling themes of infidelity and the interchangeability of women.
Outside of this landmark role and a 2006 documentary short titled Les deux femmes du Bonheur, Claire Drouot largely remained out of the public eye. She passed away on December 3, 2017, at the age of 75.
