Born in Boulogne-Billancourt in 1968, Elsa Zylberstein has established herself as one of the most versatile and enduring figures in French cinema. She first gained major recognition in the early 1990s, earning three consecutive César nominations for Most Promising Actress, notably for her role in Maurice Pialat’s Van Gogh (1991). Her early talent was further solidified when she received the prestigious Romy Schneider Prize in 1993.
Throughout her career, Zylberstein has navigated seamlessly between intimate indie dramas and major international productions. She is perhaps best known globally for her performance in the 2008 film I've Loved You So Long (Il y a longtemps que je t'aime), for which she won the César Award for Best Supporting Actress. Other notable roles include her portrayal of Jeanne Hébuterne in Modigliani (2004) and her appearance in Woody Allen’s Coup de Chance (2023).
In recent years, she has taken on significant biographical and leadership roles. In 2022, she delivered a transformative performance as the iconic politician and Holocaust survivor Simone Veil in Simone: Woman of the Century, a project she also helped produce.
